Summary

Little Owl falls from his nest and lands with a bump on the ground. Now he is lost, and his mommy is nowhere to be seen! With the help of his new friend Squirrel, Little Owl searches for animals that fit his description of Mommy Owl. But while some are big (like a bear) or have pointy ears (like a bunny) or large eyes (like a frog), none of them have all the features that make up his mommy. Where could she be?

Story Element: Dialogue

Spread 1:

This story begins with Mom and Little Owl sleeping on their perch. Little Owl tips over.
When readers turn a half flap, Little Owl falls out - “Oh-oh!”

Spread 2:
Little Owl hits the ground –
Bump . . . Bump . . . BUMP!

Spread 3:

The dialogue begins here -

“Are you OK?” asked Squirrel.

“I’m lost,” said Little Owl. “Where’s my mommy?”

After Squirrel listens to the problem, he replies –

“Don’t worry, little friend. I’ll find your mommy.

What does she look like?”

Spread 4:

Little Owl stretches his wings –
“My mommy is VERY BIG. 

Like THIS!” said Little Owl.

“Yes! Yes! I know! I know!” 

said Squirrel. “Follow me . . .”

Squirrel leads Little Owl to a big bear. Of course that's not Little Owl's mommy. 
The search continues with Little Owl's descriptions and -

“Yes! Yes! I know! I know!” 

said Squirrel. “Follow me . . .”

Until they find Little Owl's mommy. 
The dialogue reminds me of Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman.
